Three Feet Lower

Same sign as last week, only three feet lower. Lots of new snow. Breaking trail, my snowshoes sink in two feet before they float. Clumps of snow fall off the tall tree branches, hitting the surface with a whuff. Crystals roll out ahead of the air blast and a gentle cold wind surrounds the body standing there watching.

That was Sunday. Today is Wednesday. The snow is always changing…more has fallen and now the temperature is warmer. The snowpack settles and collects the rain that falls now.
