Day Seven

Day Seven of the September fire extravaganza. My job today was to look out for thirty people working a fire up on a hill. Hourly weather observations, fire behavior observations as needed, updates on wind shifts, communication, etc.

Mostly I watched the fire and listened to radio traffic. Always searching for field sketching materials, today I tried a Moleskine notebook (OK for writing, not so satisfying for drawing), Prismacolor watercolor pencils (nice), and a favorite Pitt drawing pen.

Fire intensity varies depending on weather and fuel conditions. Today’s fire did a lot of creeping with six inch flames. But single trees torched during the warmest hours.

Day Seven. I’m tired.
