California, Part Three

oak

Deep damp cold before dawn, the singing of frogs. Pink sunrise and bird chorus: meadowlarks, sparrows, bluebirds. Bluebirds! Brilliant blue wings, tips curled upward in flight. Soft lilting calls from perches on rusty barb wire. Winter bleached grasses swept over by heavy dew. Oak trees etched against the sky.
